Devils win South East England Regional Championships SEVA CUP 2009 - A picture is worth 1000 words
What can i say the picture says it all the Devils did good crowned South East England Regional Champions 2009. Emma, Tearesa, Saskia, Chantelle, Hannah and Thobi all got stuck in and showed the South East of England what they are made of. Day 1 saw the Devils in action against Spelthorne, Maidenhead, Dartford and Dolphins(again). The day started with the first match of the day against Surrey Champions Spelthorne. The match started well with the Devils well up for this challenge, but this match was close, as in very close. First in the lead and then dropping back a couple of points and then leading again. Going into the last five minute the Devils were four points behind and things did not look good. But yeee (me) of little faith. The Devils pulled it back with the scores ties when the final buzzer sounded. Next point wins the match, and the Devils not to be denied came through
Next up Maidenhead, runners up in the Berkshire league, and a team who have have a history having won the SEVA cup twice in a row in 06 and 07. Devils however decided to ply to their ability and smashed them off the court with a winning margin of 22 points. This margin proved valuable later on in the day.
Next up Dartford and finally Dolphins - The picture below says it all, an eight point loss to Dartford and a 2 point loss to Dolphins. that result could have cost Devils a place in the semis but the This is where the Maidenhead result came back into to play and the Devils when through on points difference to a Semi final against Guildford.
This is where the result says it all. Guildford 1 : Worthing Devils 3 - 19:25, 25:16, 18:25, 24:26 Although tight Devils managed to deal with Guildfords one main theat and also they put down a good number of points of there own, whith Good back court play and some mean and un releanting hitting from the front of the court. This Guildford side were no push over and were well experenced and well drilled. But they lost ! The Final and for the fouth time this year Dolphins v Devils
The Finals saw local rivals Dolphins and Devils playing for the fourth time this season, with Dolphins winning all three previous encounters. The Devils started well taking the first set on the Tie break 24:25 and then taking the second set 19:25. The third set saw a the Dolphins start with a different setter and this seamed to have worked as the Dolphins pulled the game back to two set all. The final set saw wild swings of fortune with Devils first taking a 3 point lead and then Dolphins taking 7 points in a row. The Devils stepped up a gear to pull the set back to first 10:10, and then 12:12. Sasika then served the match out to 15:12.
