Training and Match Nights The Club trains at Worthing High School, South Farm Road,on Tuesday nights, from 6.00pm for Ladies, with the addition of the Men at 7.30pm. Matches are largely played on Sunday evenings at the High School, but away match days vary. Although new players are welcome to the sessions and matches, it is advisable to get in touch first by contacting the Club Secretary, as we now have many players wanting to play each session. |
A Club for All We pride ourselves on catering for players of most ages and abilities. Although we have 2 very successful league teams, with several players stepping up to National League level, we also field two second division men's teams, largely made up of relative beginners & "more senior" members of the club and a "more social" ladies' second team. We think this leads to a healthy mix of fun and competition (as well as a fair share of taking the mick!). League Success Joining the Sussex League in 1993, the club has grown to have 5 teams, winning the Sussex Ladies' division on 2 occasions and Sussex Men's Division 1 in ten of the last eleven seasons (with a small blip in 2009!). The club's teams have also won 7 SEVA (South East England) titles between them in the last 8 years. A (very) brief history Worthing Volleyball Club started as a parents' fun night at the Vale School, Findon in 1990. The club entered a single men's team into the Sussex league in 1993 and, by 1997, had moved to the High School and gained promotion to Sussex division 1. The club had also acquired enough players to start another team and a junior programme. This junior side spawned the first Ladies' team, the Giants (the shortest team in the league at the time!) who went on to win the SVA cup for the first time in 2003. As numbers have grown, the club has added two more teams, won numerous championships, introduced many people to the wonderful sport of volleyball and obtained an intimate knowledge of many local pubs, restaurants and late night greasy spoons!
